No, seriously, everything. Just as a teaser, I’ll say I’ve got this much:
1) A list of all the second round matchups, with predicted favorites
2) A pile of random numerical stats about all the shows represented, and how they’ve fared
3) Some of the most important matches in the last round
4) Characters to watch over the coming rounds

And it took quite a few hours to compile, so I hope you can enjoy and use this.

In case you’re not aware of SaiMoe, it’s essentially what you get when you mix March Madness with a popularity contest, where fans pit character against character in a series of matches which eventually determine, in a sense, the favorite (or most moe) character of 2007-2008 anime.

It’s a bit silly, but it’s all in good fun, and it’s great for analyzing just how the heart of the fandom shifts, or for seeing what’s popular, or just for watching the vote totals shift up and down. The canvassing involved, although a little messy, really embodies the intense spirit of anime fans, and so it’s a treat to watch, and maybe, participate in.

You can find out more about SaiMoe and how to participate in the AnimeSuki thread here. Otherwise, continue to the wealth of data.

(Click here for the full bracket, thanks to AyaReiko.)

(Note that since the first round has not quite ended, I’ve assumed results for the final match of the first round with the winners as: Nami, Chiri, and Misao.)

Some Random Stats
Pretty much just as it says. Important Matches of the First Round:
8/27 – Louise (ZnT) def. Alicia (Aria) and Akira (Aria) 672-610-116
9/17 – Hinagiku (Hayate) def. Alice (Aria) and Raichou (KKN) 891-771-67
Some of the toughest losses for Aria fans to swallow; they’ve been getting horrible draws this year, which is unfortunate considering they’re likely not coming back…and seeing one of their more legitimate characters just barely toppled by Yet Another Kugimiya Rie Tsundere really hurts, while a slightly wider defeat at the hands of Hayate was difficult as well.

8/28 – Kagami (L*S) def. Sanae (Clannad) and Shino (Higurashi) 822-270-227
9/16 – Tsukasa (L*S) def. Cornelia (CGR2) and Yayoi (Idolm@ster) 825-209-175
Lucky Star had a pretty hard year, with many minor (and not so minor – Miyuki, for example) characters falling by the wayside, but take this into note: if the fandom supports a Lucky Star character, the fandom SUPPORTS them. Kagami, Tsukasa are the leading contenders, with Konata and maybe even Misao likely as well. Expect the Lucky Star competition to get much more stiff from here on out.

8/29 – Otome (D.C.II) def. Kyouko (KKN) and Kaaya (Druaga) 430-426-157
Notable for being one of the few extremely close matches, one that was decided by a false-vote reversal in the end. Also notable since Da Capo II is doing much stronger than expected.

9/10 – Sasara (TH2) def. Naeka (Maid Guy) and Ikuno (TH2) 327-321-140
Another quite close match, that made To Heart 2 fans happy, for being able to get at least one character in, even if just by inches.

8/22 – Potemayo (Potemayo) def. Shirley (CGR2) and Nunnally (CGR2) 507-436-245
This is cool just because I never really expected Potemayo to win, but it goes to show just how weak of an opponent Code Geass is (unless you are C.C.), and the possibility of Potemayo.

9/4 – Nanoha (Nanoha) def. Hiromi (True Tears) and Signum (Nanoha) 906-886-78
Is True Tears stronger than we expected? Noe won strongly in her fight and Hiromi came within inches of derailing one of the queen shows of this tournament, even without massive vote splitting. It’s something to think about…

9/5 – Nona (NanaDrops) def. Rei (NGE) and Kuro (KnJ) 382-360-262
One other thing was clear, though – while some worried about gimmick characters back-door’ing into the tournament on technicalities, the actual votes cast crushed them hard. Rei here was expected to sweep, but in the end was defeated by a magical girl, while Miku Hatsune (SZS) and Haruhi (Lucky Star) suffered even more crushing defeats. Nice try.

8/31 – Rena (Higurashi) def. Maria (Hayate) and Fatina (Druaga) 1056-1034-133
Arguably the match of the first round and the only one to push four digits, with TWO charactes no less, this is what I’m hoping to see in the matches to come, the absolutely massive turnout of voters between two large faction in an epic back-and-forth battle that really embodies the spirit of SaiMoe. It’s a shame that Maria lost in the end, but how this will shape the following rounds to come, I can only wonder…

Powerhouses to Watch:
Bracket A: Rika should be able to clean house relatively easy in the coming rounds; C.C. will be her closest competitor, while Fuuko has a slight chance if the Clannad fans rally behind her.

Bracket B: It’s a weak bracket, with no major contenders in the long run, but Potemayo is worth rooting for as the true essence of moeblob-ism. Kirino is slightly more likely, however, but no one can be counted out here.

Bracket C: There’s only one way this can end, barring some massive strategic voting, and that is in an epic clash of the purple-haired KyoAni tsunderes, Kagami and Kyou. Who will win? It’s anyone’s game.

Bracket D: This is a tough one. I can say it’s NOT Sakura who’s going to end up winning. Other than that, it all comes down to KyoAni fans versus Higurashi fans – Konata and Kotomi versus Rena. Bitter Hayate fans might give KyoAni the edge, which will probably fall to Konata.

Bracket E: Some titular characters here are the likely favorites; Shana has a legitimate shot of topping Nanoha here. Chiaki and Tamaki or Horo (it’s a close match) could rally some power and make it close, but it’s unlikely for them.

Bracket F: It’s likely to come down to KyoAni again with Nagisa fighting Yutaka, but as a gimmick I’d like to see how far the girl from this “First Grade Challenge” can go. Seriously?

Bracket G: It’s here or never that Aria’s going to make a stand in its last year, with Akari being one of its strongest characters. However, it’s facing one of the toughest brackets on earth, featuring yet another purple-hair KyoAni girl (Tsukasa) and one of two Hayate powerhouses, Ayumu or Nagi. It’s likely to come down to Nagi vs. Tsukasa in another epic clash, but both Ayumu and Akari fans can and will hope for miracles here.

Bracket H: When in doubt, Hayate will probably win. Isumi and Hinagiku are both higher-tier Hayate characters, and there’s no major challenge to speak of, unless Noe’s power is highly underestimated.

(Very dissapointed that Miyuki didn’t make it, and that KimiKiss and H2O got entirely annihilated, but at least they didn’t place 32nd in second preliminaries like a certain Chinami Ebihara. ;_;)

(Also, note that I have more continual coverage at my MAL blog.)
