Shakugan no Shana II is a standard action-slash-supernatural romance show revolving around a hardly-normal boy named Yuuji, who secretly harbors a hidden treasure called the Reiji Maigo inside his body. This, combined with his status as a Torch, a sort of copy of a deceased person’s personality, makes him a top target for hunters known as the Guze no Tomogara. It’s up to Shana, a female Flame Haze who fights to keep the balance of the world, to protect him – but could their relationship be something more? Or does Yuuji’s friend Yoshida have something to say about that? Not to mention, a wide array of other main and side characters, including Margery Daw, a far more reckless Flame Haze, Wilhelmina, the Flame Haze with a caring, outspoken personality, and many of Yuuji’s friends from school, who all play roles in the gears of this story.

Shugo Chara! is a ‘pure’ magical girl show that follows the adventures of Amu, a popular schoolgirl who hides a hidden desire to be accepted for her true self. This wish is manifested in the Guardian (Shugo) Chara, little entities that represent a future personality of someone – for Amu, it is the athlete, Ran, the artist, Miki, and the chef, Su. Amu is forced into a elite group of students known as the Guardians, people who have sworn to protect the dreams of innocent children everywhere. They do this by transforming (”character changing”) into their envisioned future self with the help of the Guardian Chara, and purifying “X Eggs” – negative wishes – back into their original state. Amu’s situation really gets complicated as she begins to get torn between Tadase, the King Guardian and guy of her dreams, and Ikuto, the soft-spoken gothic character who appears to be working for a mysterious but no doubt nefarious company known as Easter…

“Track Two” is a new feature to M3 / Eternity 2.0, and is a bit of a miniature companion to the frequently lengthy main blog posts. It is a mini-blog of sorts, featuring hot-off-the-press discussion and thoughts on various anime episodes and topics. Each post also contains a spoiler-free summary of the show, for those who are interested in learning more about it.
Track Two was created to give a bit of a lighter feel to the often-serious blog that I write, as it contains a lot of the commentary and wisecracks that I couldn’t organize into a standard post otherwise. It also helps to provide an episode-by-episode snapshot of the series, both in terms of plot summary and in terms of my own opinion of the show.
Each link below will take you to the Track Two page for that specific series, where a short series summary and the miniblog posts are stored. I hope you enjoy this feature!
Incidentally, if you’re wondering of the name, “Track Two” refers to the second audio track on most DVDs, frequently reserved for director commentary. Likewise, this feature contains a lot of things that you might hear if you were watching the anime with a friend, or on Mystery Science Theater.
