Lucky Star 6 – Nothing funny to say. Blog entry desu.

What is there to say? I’m hooked.

The anime parodies seem to have reached a stable amount – as opposed to earlier where they threw in Kanon, Shuffle, Haruhi, and god knows what else that flew over my head, now there’s one or two big ones and a bunch of side references.

As has probably been said millions of times over, the Initial D parody was absolute gold. It’d be interesting to see Lucky Star in a bunch of different animation angles – the serious and highly CG style here fits I.D. well and doesn’t look too bad for Yui either.

All we’re really missing is Tsukasa and Kagami getting tossed around in the back like ragdolls, preferably in normal animation fashion (to depict the wild difference between the two worlds at this moment).

The little things are what make the parody great – the references to the 5 hairpin curves of Akina, the yellow FD, the cup of water in the cupholder, and yes, Yui using the gutter technique during a turn. Someone’s been practicing.

And yes, the speedometer. 40 miles an hour at most, 40 kilometers per hour at least. The blinding speed of it all! 500 bonus points for Yui the awesome meganekko/gamer/doriftoer.

Oh, and in random Initial D related news, there’s word of a Wangan Midnight anime coming up later this year. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out – WM doesn’t have particularly interesting nor good looking character designs (except for maybe the hilarious ricer Gatchan) but I enjoyed the arcade game much and still look forward to the racing scenes – which hopefully will look as good as this one.

More Lucky Star and less racing after the jump.

Shuffle! 13 – Sad Shuffle! in grass field/house/other house/school/park/etc

Where’d all the Shuffle! posts go? Anyone? Hello?

Now, where were we?

Still planning on blogging Shuffle! to completion, got all the notes prepared and the screenshots captured and all it needs is a little writing up.

Coming back to 13, this is the second of the Primula arc, which features, among other things, a more serious tone, a new dark title card/eyecatch, and 100% more loli.

Except for the fact that Rin just sent the loli back to her residence in the demon world, because he’s a meanie like that. Seriously! It’s not a bright move! The whole group seemed to have developed quite a connection with the quiet loli who was there not in words and in presence.

And not even Rin’s really lousy lies and attempts to brighten the mood will improve anything. Kaede seems really down with the dissapearance of another member of her household – even despite the whole idea that it’s just her and Rin now. Kaede needs more self-confidence – this is a perfect time to strike, no?

Or perhaps it’s good that she values Rin’s happiness over Rin. Right?

Carrying on after the jump. This time I’ll keep it spoiler-free for those following the series, so this entry is safe for all who have reached episode 13…

Kanon 6 – The Game Show

And we’re back on the set of Uguu~! Today on Uguu~, newcomer Nayuki Minase was our latest contestant to attempt a shot at the throne of 5-episode champion of monosyllabic mastery, Ayuuuuuuuu Tsukimiya!

*crows cheers, jeers, etc.*

For those of you just tuning in, it’s been a close fight all the way through the episode so far. Minase got the first strike in this episode, but Tsukimiya quickly retook the lead two to one.

However, the bonus round of this episode awaits, and the category this time is “Movie Date-o!” The situation is looking bad for Minase, who’s been excluded from participating in the bonus round. Tsukimiya has a big chance to expand her lead here, and third contestant Yuuichi Aizawa, the perennial contender for last place, has a shot of getting on the board here.

Let’s begin!

“Hey, look, a person exploded.” Now, the correct answer to this question is…
*ding*
Yes, Tsukimiya?

Ayu: UGUU!!

That’s correct! A third point for Tsukimiya, which makes it 3-1-0. Now, next question: when your coat is stolen away from you, the correct response is-

*ding*

Ayu: UGUU!!!!

Right again!

*flash forward*

And that’ll put you up to 16 points for today, Tsukimiya, with the correct answer to ‘what to say when the harem lead teases you!’ Which, incidentally, as it has been for the last 18 questions, ‘uguu’.

*more bells*

Ohhhhh, and that’s all the time we’ve got for today folks! Let’s look at the scores:

Aizawa made a valiant effort this time to score points but in the end he ends up tied with today’s feature contestant Minase with only one point. Which leaves Tsukimiya, with 16 points, you are today’s winner of…

UGUU~!

See you all next time after the jump, where sanity and much, much plot foreshadowing ensues. Remember, kids: spay and neuter your pets and don’t click the ‘read more’ link unless you’ve finished watching Kanon!

Shuffle! Memories 1 – What’s new is old, and what’s old is…old

Mayumi reveals she is actually an angel from heaven. Paradoxes and intense fanboying ensues.

What?! Another series!?

Yes, it’s another anime I’m watching.
Yes, it’s another anime I’m blogging.
Yes, it’s another Shuffle! But not really – it’s mostly a recap series, but I’ve heard there is some minor new content in there.

Still, Shuffle! is Shuffle! and one of the more interesting eroge adaptations comes around for its second shot. Although perhaps a Tick! Tack! or Really? Really! anime adaptation would be interesting – but I don’t per se know the actual stories behind those games. If there are any.

P.S. Dear Navel, stop using punctuation in your game titles.

OK, technically, I haven’t finished blogging the real Shuffle!, but I’ve finished watching it and I think that merits a Memories watch and recap.

The intro is mostly cut and pasted clips – for now anyway – but there are a few new and or important shots. For example, Primula is on the ceiling at the end of the intro. Why? Because. I only wish there was some plot to give away.

Hit the jump for spoilers for the Shuffle anime plus recap. If you’re a purist, stay away.
