Finishing Fanime: some more random stories and discussionsPosted by: CCY in Conventions, Fanstuff, Games, tags: Conventions, Fanstuff, Games
Just some random notes on Fanime 2008. Inside, a look over on some of the cosplays (although, no pictures yet), the dealer’s room, my elitist side at Fanime, some random games, and the video rooms. I wonder if writing a blunt, short, dull preview while mentally dead will help drive more people to read the actual article. It’s an experiment. Or something. Man, I miss KimiKiss at times like this … although my rewatch of it has stalled out.

Fanime’s Finest (2008) - A rave on Touhou, English visual novels, and zawa zawaPosted by: CCY in Conventions, Fanstuff, Games, Kaiji, tags: Conventions, Fanstuff, Kaiji, Shira OkaIt’s been two days since quite possibly the most hectic weekend of my life, and I think I’ve finally shaken off all the sleep deprivation and worn off that tasty mix of adrenaline and insanity, that anime conventions tend to impart upon an otherwise normal person. As such it’s time to immortalize my first Fanime (do note that the phrase “my first time” has been beaten to death at the convention already) in literary form by going over some of the more entertaining events that made my weekend and my $55 worth it. Additionally, in the next few days I plan to make a broader coverage of the convention as a whole with more general info and more griping, but until then I’ll stick with the starry-eyed wonder that makes all the seasoned, hardened anibloggers jealous. It might be perhaps a bit self-indulging in a sense to brag about all the cool stuff that happened, but on the other hand, I hope I can inspire and encourage future entertaining events like this in the future. OK, yeah, it’s just wankery. But it’s entertaining and hilarious wankery. Trust me. It’s apparently not just a coincidence I was wearing a Cirno shirt around. I make a lot of idiotically awesome stories. Spent fifteen minutes at Fanime, have five minutes to write on it. Didn’t have much time other than to be overwhelmed by all the stuff, so here’s the only thing I remembered, cosplay highlights. - Hatsune Miku; obscure enough to surprise me. And other highlights: For tomorrow, I’m going to be at Fanime at 8 AM, so lk and etc., if you want to meet pick a place accordingly. Planning to wear one of my three iron-on ‘cheap nerdy shirts’ - depicting either an outline of Chihiro from ef, the “quiet unsociable person” tagline (Hisui, from Tsukihime), or Cirno’s nine-ball. Hope to see some of you there. -CCY

Fanime Blogger Meetup: The feature-length pagePosted by: CCY in blog general, tags: Conventions
(Un)fortunately, none of us bloggers will look like this Well, now that Author’s linked it from his end, I might as well make an official page for it. As mentioned before in previous posts, I am heading to Fanime, an anime convention in San Jose, Calfornia, this year in 2008. It’ll be my first time and I figured what the heck, let’s make a social-type event out of it, so we can put some faces to the flames … er … posts because I have no friends. So I proposed a ani-blogger meeting at Fanime, and lo and behold I’ve got something resembling interest. Now you too can be trolled in person by shouta imouto lolikitsune, and be bombarded with the Kanon propaganda of…uh…me, and I imagine that Author will be there too, except you won’t see him because he’ll be on a open-air balcony somewhere sniping people. Of course I digress and I’m just playing up the stereotypical images for fun, so, y’know, don’t kill me any more than you usually do. But on topic here somewhere, here’s a little discussion page for any plans for a blogger meetup at Fanime. Frankly, I’m a teenager, I don’t plan things, and it’s my first time at Fanime, so it would probably just end up as a big group of people walking around the convention like any other group, except with more snarkiness and obscure references. But if there’s anything good that’s worth doing outside of the convention, like grabbing a meal (bah, food is for the weak) somewhere, let’s work something out. Well, assuming we get a group that amounts to something. I don’t want to drag people out to Fanime just for one or two other people, especially when they’re quiet like me (at least, I hope I’m not going to turn into someone who runs around beating people with yaoi yuri paddles). So yeah. I guess I’ll start camping on some IRC channels if anyone needs to discuss, I’m usually on #animebloggingcollective at Rizon. I suppose I should start hanging out in #animeblogger too, or wherever all the cool kids go. -CCY

[Rapidfire] Fanime, blogroll upkeep, Toshokan SensouPosted by: CCY in Rapidfire, tags: blog general, Conventions, Rapidfire, Toshokan Sensou
The feature that everyone expected to be dead - probably including myself - returns for a second edition of quick ramblings about nothing in particular. It’s pretty much as the title says in terms of the three topics - a call to arms about the upcoming anime convention in San Jose, new enlistments in the integrated blogroll, and a rave about the strangely delicious mix of books and guns, so check it out.

[Rapidfire] KyoAni dream remakes, Bamboo Blade, FanimePosted by: CCY in Bamboo Blade, Rapidfire, tags: Bamboo Blade, Conventions, Rapidfire
A new feature that will undoubtedly die past its second post or so, Rapidfire is basically an evolution of the Track Two theory in being a bunch of short posts that wouldn’t make it on their own, collected into one post. All we need now is those crazy Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei segment titles. By the way, I had to change the title a bit after I realized it looked like it said “KyoAni remakes Bamboo Blade,” except with commas hidden in there. Inside, it’s pretty much what’s on the box. What shows KyoAni, our king of redundancy (and pretty animation), should remake, “first impressions” of Bamboo Blade, and a little convention talk about Fanime and the strangeness of life. Forge onward. |
