“But your poorly-crafted charm of endless night…
That’s no match for my power controlling eternity. The dawn is getting closer.
This is the end of your imperishable night…
Now the dawn will come!!”
Well, all good, bad, and tl;dr things must come to an end, right? It’s New Year’s Day and that traditionally means the end of my super-lengthy chain of super-lengthy posts.
Somehow it feels longer than last time, possibly because I did more cramming and wild typing closer to more deadlines (and yes, this means writing in the car, in bed, in the morning, in the “morning”,a nd so forth). But it’s been fun nevertheless.
I’ve gotten to read a lot of good posts, and gotten to skim a lot more. The turnout this year, as I said before, is absolutely incredible.
I mean, just skimming the link copypasta I’ve used, we’ve got lolikitsune, lelangir, FuyuMaiden, Zeroblade, Nazarielle, ghostlightning, TheBigN, ETERNAL, Mike, A Day Without Me, digitalboy, Josh, otou-san, Culchann and Pontifus, IcyStorm, Cokematic, koneko-chan, and miz onboard – about 20 people or so, not including ones that I didn’t catch! I’m glad that there was a lot of general enthusiasm to go around as we all recapped our favorite moments of 2008.
And naturally, there was a lot of recapping going on at this end-of-year time, and while some may think it seemed rather spam-ish, I, as a person with a short memory, like recollecting some of the shows I might have otherwise forgot.
But as much as I can look to the post and bemoan for the fifth time my poor memory of middle-tier shows like Kure-nai and true tears, it’s probably better at some point to look forward and MASSUGU GO into the future.
For as much as we can memorialize and fondly recall our nostalgia, there will always be more interesting and more … well … new stuff ahead. I mean, rewatching anime has some merit, but I’m always a proponent of finding new and exciting things.
Would rather become a master of harem than remain a Kanon fanboy forever, or something.
And so on this last day of possibly the longest Christmas celebration I’ve ever seen (although the Christmas-ness of its is only tangentially related, if at all), I’ll put forth a few wishes for the future.
Maybe not as much as last year, if only out of a desire to 1) be more compact and 2) not have to write a 20 KB response post next year, but still, the hopes are there.
Well then, this is the last of 2008 (ha, I wonder if I can get this posted on the leap second we’re supposedly having) … enjoy it well. I’ll see you all in 2009, once I wake from my hangover induced by too much writing.

Well, one year ago I made a bunch of New Year’s Resolutions of sorts, in terms of anime viewing, as to what I definitely most absolutely must had to see (or experience, or rave about, in a few cases) over the next 12 months.
And while it’s apparent that the last year in the anime fandom has led me off more than a few beaten paths, as I talk with people, blog a lot, and watch even more, a lot of it quite unexpected, both in genre and quality.
As I begin to wind down the year you may notice the lengthy, 2000 word posts beginning to wear on me after two weeks of barely-deadline-beating writing, so you may forgive me if I do not do anything dramatic just yet in terms of energetic, passionate prose. I have done my best, but when you cover many different, miniature topics, one gets the flavor of a grab bag of candy instead of a full-course meal.
Although, I do like candy.
Well, it probably won’t end here, if time permits; so until next time, let’s take a bit of reflection as to, at least for me, what I tried to make myself become, in terms of things to watch and do (but mostly watch) …

<em>Part 17 in the 12 Moments in Anime Countdown</em>
So I redid the quotes for probably 90% of the rotating blogroll. Today was kind of a day devoted to you guys out there in the otakusphere. A meta day.
So here’s to you, Mr. (Ms.) Crazy Anime Blogger.
For all the time you’ve put into your passion, one way or another.
Whether it be writing 3000-word-long posts, editing together hilarious images, leaving comments everywhere, or composing strange meta visual novels.
Have one tonight on me.
Except I don’t drink, so I’m not sure what that ‘one’ refers to. Maybe an episode of anime or something. I’ll watch Clannad After Story tonight and think of my internet harem family (as well as my actual family and whatnot).
In any case, today isn’t really a post but more of a notification to start crazily refreshing so that you can see your blog on the sidebar. Or you could just save the PHP file here and check it out for yourself. Maybe you could get your own revolving blogroll going.
(UPDATE: Chris Fritz over at The Pink Sylphide has done an absolutely spot-on job in taking my code and making it readable and easily modifiable. Hats off to him.)
Well, tommorow’s post is going to be absolutely deadly to write, so it only seems right that I call in a short post tonight. Until next time then …

“Club Nayuki” is this hip imaginary place in my head, a VIP locale for some of the underdog, underloved, or underrated characters in anime. Christened after a certain Miss Minase who gained quite the following in the great battle of Kanon, it’s a place I often reference when referring to characters that just don’t seem to get the spotlight enough, in-anime or out. A localized meme.
And I’m bringing it back in the next entry in my 12 Days (hah) series, with some new (and possibly old) entries, of characters that I think need their moment in the spotlight. Or at least, characters that I adore one way or another.
Club Nayuki – who’s on the shortlist of rabid fandom and adoration
Part 15 in the 12 Moments in Anime Countdown
As a bonus, here’s a basis for a drinking game (if you’re underage like me, use soda or water) for my writing, I found; especially so in my fandom over characters. I am not responsible for the consequences, and I encourage you to not actually play this game, but to just make fun of it. Or to take imaginary drinks, in Notepad.
* A drink every time I mention something about “being different” or something to that extent.
* A drink every time I use the phrase “In the end”, “As a result”, “Anyway”, or “In this case”.
* A drink every time I fanboy a character that is 1) clumsy, 2) shy, 3) smart, 4) a meganekko. One drink per characteristic.
* A drink every time a sentence seems longer than it could have been as a result of random sidetracking.
* A drink every time I reuse an image from a previous 12 Days post.
* A drink every time you take a drink OH SHI~ RECURSION
Uh … enjoy?

found my music – Some of the best themes of 2008 anime
Part 14 in the 12 Moments in Anime Countdown
Counting down a few of my favorite songs from anime in 2008; I can’t claim to be a music enthusiast in terms of knowing terminology, or knowing musical theory, but anime music does make up a large part of my playlist, in any case.
Luckily I don’t have to worry about my mass of Touhou music for the purpose of this post.
