Mega Megane Moé
Hell and Heaven Moéltdown

Have you had enough KyoAni yet? Even the most hardened of fanboys might admit that yesterday’s match was a bit overwhelming in Overly Popular Characters, and only one girl was unlucky enough to stand up to them…
The unexpected popularity of Minami-ke gave their core trio strong showings in the first two rounds, with numerous upsets, but with stiff competition in the third round, it looks like it might be time to start falling apart at the seams. Haruka already got trashed by Fuuko; did Kyou cause a repeat, or is Kana truely the most bossy boss of all?
And what of the clash of ideals, between Tomoyo and Konata, two fan-favorites from two different genres?

Kyou (Clannad) defeats
Kana (Minami-ke) 1031-741
Well, as for the first question, ahaha no. Some things just aren’t going to happen, I suppose. And this leaves it down to Chiaki against Tamaki to prevent a total Minami-ke collapse, but that’s tommorow…
What’s interesting here is that the combined Clannad vote (Kyou / Tomoyo) was enough to defeat Kana on its own, not to mention the split ballots (Kyou / Konata) and solo votes.
I guess it’s going to be a Kagami vs. Kyou battle after all for bracket C, and with the way they’ve smashed their opponents I sure hope it’s going to be a good fight …

Tomoyo (Clannad) defeats
Konata (Lucky Star) 1080-719
But at least on the other hand my faith in society carries on as Tomoyo defeats Konata equally as handily as Kyou defeated Kana.
Kind of surprising, that in the end Konata’s vote count about equaled Kana’s, eh? Makes you wonder how they’d do in a head on fight, but in reality, this was probably the fact that Lucky Star and Clannad’s viewership overlapped quite a bit, and that most fans went for the choice with a dedicated OVA and arc. (Well, almost an arc.)
And now, for something completely different…
Next:
E3-1: Nanoha (Nanoha StrikerS) vs. Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
Show ▼
Here rather, we have the clash of the two other things Japan and / or the anime fandom tend to like (other than sad girls in stuff) and that is Nanoha and Rie Kugimiya tsunderes – or, alternatively, flat-chest tsunderes, and, one might argue, loli tsunderes. Or just badass girls with swords. Who knows.
In any case this one’s a tough one to call; Nanoha has been getting a good deal of votes and has the advantage of being Nanoha, but Shana’s strong in her own right, and just hasn’t had a chance to show it yet.
Perhaps this will work to Shana’s advantage; since she has not done unpleasant things like defeat Ranka, she will have a lesser hate faction. Maybe those angry at Louise’s defeat will vote her Shana as a substitute. Tamaki strategic-voters might have a hand in this too.
In any case, Nanoha has the raw power, but Shana has strategy on her side. I expect this to be a fine battle, but personally, Shana-tan clinches the melon-pan vote for me.
Prediction:
It should be quite close, similar to the Rena vs. Miyako standoff two matches ago. I give Nanoha the edge but a victory by Shana wouldn’t even be termed an ‘upset’.
F3-2: Hayate (Nanoha StrikerS) vs. Aono (sola)
Show ▼
By comparison, Aono won the second round with only 400 votes, and the first with 381.
I like Aono. I like Aono quite a bit. I like sola. I like sola quite a bit.
Do I hope Aono wins? Of course.
Do I expect Aono to win? …If I say no, will you prove me wrong?
Prediction:
Aono’s one ray of hope is a complete rampage by Nagisa tactical voters. Either than, or me recruiting about 500 people tommorow.
I’ll start now…

I think, if you’ve seen my posts over the last week or two, you know where this is going. So do I. And I ask you, with no regrets:

Vote Yuuko.
And if you’re not convinced, read to the end of this post. It’s not even 800 words. It’s short, and filled with passion, and if you [...]

At the rate things are going, I don’t think I can have pretenses any more.
Maybe you’ve read my previous post trying to hype Shiori Misaka of Kanon for ISML 2009. I’ve decided to do all I can to help her for one round, and anything I do, I want to do with my whole heart.
And [...]

(Hey, if you don’t have the time to read a 1000-word post filled with passion and energy, that’s cool. Just click here to jump to my main message, and it’ll all be good. It’ll make a lot more sense if you read the whole article, but I just need a little favor, real quick. If [...]

As you remember, I was more than non-trivially fervent about J-Saimoe this past fall, and with the kicking into gear of the International Saimoe League over the last few weeks with their preliminary rounds, I’ve got Write a Lot of Overanalytical Stuff Over Mostly Useless Popularity (But Really Moe, Not Poularity) Contests fever all over [...]

After more than eleven months of turns and twists in the world’s most elaborate contest, it all comes down to this.
Over a dozen people have fought for the heart of America’s people in grueling match after match, slowly being pared down to just two who will fight to take home the crown of SaiAmerica 2008 [...]

“Gambling: the sure way of getting nothing from something.”
I think I’ve finally found the perfect analogy for SaiMoe [2008] and that is that of a casino, featuring lots of gambling, not of the ear-cutting variety, but of the conventional monetary kind.
The fact is, gambling is logistically dumb. If you go to a casino more [...]
Nagi vs. Tsukasa.
Nagi vs. Tsukasa.
Nagi vs. Tsukasa.
The last match in Round 3 is the first major challenge for two beacons of moe for two shows that have shown exceptional support for their top characters. Who will emerge victor, and how hard will the world shake with the battle of these two and their fanbase!?
But coming [...]

Can I still dramatize Minami-ke? I can still dramatize Minami-ke.
The third round has been a rough mix of incredible blowouts and intense battles; we’ve seen all four Clannad girls annihilate the competition in varying amounts. We’ve seen Nanoha and Shana go toe-to-toe for 23 hours in one of the most consistently close matches of the [...]
Things are looking bad for the Minami-ke ticket that could seemingly do no wrong one round ago. Now, faced with hate votes, strategic votes, and worst of all, Key characters (and I only use worst in the ‘garners ridiculous amount of votes’ sense), two of their girls got crushed pretty roughly, and it’s down to [...]

And yet another climactic round comes to pass. SaiMoe is very much a tournament of dreams, not because to outsiders it seems like a bunch of people verbally fapping to imaginary characters, but because it really is an example where sometimes, anything seems possible.
We’ve seen the legendary upturned. The close fights that send a bracket [...]

Poor Aono. Hayata Yagami is going to rip her a new one. Shana and Nanoha should theoretically me an even match. I want Shana to win but have the gut feeling Nanoha is going to ‘befriend’ Shana into submission.
