Fanime Blogger Meetup: The feature-length pagePosted by: CCY in blog general, tags: Conventions
(Un)fortunately, none of us bloggers will look like this Well, now that Author’s linked it from his end, I might as well make an official page for it. As mentioned before in previous posts, I am heading to Fanime, an anime convention in San Jose, Calfornia, this year in 2008. It’ll be my first time and I figured what the heck, let’s make a social-type event out of it, so we can put some faces to the flames … er … posts because I have no friends. So I proposed a ani-blogger meeting at Fanime, and lo and behold I’ve got something resembling interest. Now you too can be trolled in person by shouta imouto lolikitsune, and be bombarded with the Kanon propaganda of…uh…me, and I imagine that Author will be there too, except you won’t see him because he’ll be on a open-air balcony somewhere sniping people. Of course I digress and I’m just playing up the stereotypical images for fun, so, y’know, don’t kill me any more than you usually do. But on topic here somewhere, here’s a little discussion page for any plans for a blogger meetup at Fanime. Frankly, I’m a teenager, I don’t plan things, and it’s my first time at Fanime, so it would probably just end up as a big group of people walking around the convention like any other group, except with more snarkiness and obscure references. But if there’s anything good that’s worth doing outside of the convention, like grabbing a meal (bah, food is for the weak) somewhere, let’s work something out. Well, assuming we get a group that amounts to something. I don’t want to drag people out to Fanime just for one or two other people, especially when they’re quiet like me (at least, I hope I’m not going to turn into someone who runs around beating people with yaoi yuri paddles). So yeah. I guess I’ll start camping on some IRC channels if anyone needs to discuss, I’m usually on #animebloggingcollective at Rizon. I suppose I should start hanging out in #animeblogger too, or wherever all the cool kids go. -CCY If you liked this post, try...11 Responses to “Fanime Blogger Meetup: The feature-length page”

Incidentally, here’s my schedule so far, if anyone can only make it / prefers to make it at certain times:
Saturday (5/24):
Off limits
Sunday (5/25):
10 PM - Shira Oka panel
Careful, it’s complicated.

To interact with animeblogging personalities in real life is definitely an interesting experience to think of.

So, midday Sunday?
I suggest the top of the starcase towards the Western part (I think it’s closer to the Hilton than Marriott). Other areas are too busy.
There used to be an inviting lounge in Marriott, that may work too.
Actually, I do not know yet if I can come. Haven’t talked to the family even.

Midday Sunday probably works for me.
I’m there from Thursday P.M. until early P.M. Monday, so… yeah. There are some panels I can’t miss (MADs, Damn You Internets, etc.) but I don’t know what times they’re at yet. How’s that for usefulness?! :D

Midday Sunday works, the Marriott lounge sounds like a good location. I’ll check that place out when I get myself
orientated on Friday.
Yeah, the scheduling for everything I’m not so sure about; the only thing I’ve found a schedule for is the video room. Has anyone been to one of the screenings before in the video rooms? Anything I’d go to I’d already have seen or could see easily (considering at least in part: Clannad the Movie, ef ~a tale of memories~ eps. 1-5, School Days marathon, Nodame Cantabile marathon), but it sounded like a nice way to meet other people familiar and interesting in the show.
(Incidentally, Special A airs in the industry room at one point. Coincidence … or conspiracy?)
Haven’t found any other ‘must-go’es in the panels yet, but I’m considering the industry panels at least - although I heard Bandai canceled, which made me swear profusely.
Hopefully everyone (and this time my cliche phrase ‘all two of you’ actually applies) can make it.
LATE NEWS: Apparently they’re screening the entirety of H2O ~footprints in the sand~ as well; it’s one of the few non-marathon shows to be aired completely. I wonder why. Makes me happy because I actually liked this show in the end; maybe I’ll swing by an episode or two or that too.

I’ve been to the screenings before. They’re all fansubs, it’s quite funny. They’re fun for the most part unless the anime is shit (which is most of the time…). But I’ve found that the screenings are really just there to fill the time between Dealer’s Room trawls, Artist Alley trolls, and panels. Meaning, they’re there for staying up all night and killing brain cells.
And uh, you only really ‘meet’ other people interested in the shows outside the video rooms. It’s quiet in the rooms, you don’t talk, and it’s dark so you don’t see the other people that well. If you file out at the same time though and begin discussing how it went, then suddenly it becomes a more intimate thing. I remember coming out of the NHK ni Youkoso all-night marathon last year at 8 am, there was a definite feeling of camaraderie—we had persevered through something together.
I’m excited to meet you guys :)
And sure, let’s say Marriot lounge ~12 noon Sunday? In case it falls through or w/e, we can all wear stuff that stands out so we can identify each other easily.

Whether I go or not is a toss in the air. It’s really a matter of whether or not my will to go is strong enough.

There’s a Haruhi cosplay gathering I’m attending at 11:30 on Sunday, so I might drop by afterwards. What should we look for when we get to the lounge? There may be other people there as well.

Hmmm… I’m not sure what Author and lk are going to do, but I was considering making an anime-related shirt with iron-ons or something, because I didn’t have time to make a cosplay, yet still wanted to spread the word about some of my favorite shows. I’m sure we’ll (or I’ll) be carrying some anime-related merchandise one way or another though, and if all else fails, we’ll break out another lolicon sign on lk.
Thanks for the interest.

I have no plans to do anything special, but odds are I’ll be wearing a yellow Cal hat.
I may or may not have a sign that may or may not proclaim me as a horrible person (read: lolicon), and the sign may or may not feature my adorable mascot.
I just checked the schedule, I have nothing going between 12 and 1 on Sunday and thusly that time slot works perfectly for me.
Also, if anyone sees me around before or after then, please do approach me. I don’t bite >:)
