drm: I'll get back to you on that kind-of-sort-of-probably-a-spoiler...in a couple months. Y'know, after the anime. And the translation patch. And everything. XD

Unless Sabac means the other sense of 'messed up', as in "disturbing" instead of "ruined for <s>marriage</s> spoilers". Pardon my paranoia, I've been doing good with avoid Clannad crossfire so far.

biskit: Yeah, maybe I'm being a little too "LOOK AT ME I'M DIFFERENT" with the tsundere fad, but I'm just kind of against supporting a rather rigid character mold. I've seen a lot of typical tsunderes, and the standout ones are, to me, pretty rare. Kyou is probably on the better side, but her personality has done a pretty wild change over the last episode or two; before she was more flirty, which was nice, but now she's just dropping the ball (i.e. blushing and stammering), like when Tomoyo asked her about her relationship to Tomoya. We'll see how it goes, maybe the end of her "arc" will make things great again.

(The other thing is that I like a lot of other characters in Clannad, and so I kind of come down on other ones pretty hard for not being entirely awesome.)

IKnight: I think a lot of it is the fact that 1) a lot of bloggers were already all over Kyou (she is Nayuki Caliber after all...er...that is...the fan favorite that always loses; which condition causes which, who knows) and 2) KyoAni and the Key adaptations are known more for emotional fanservice (sad girls in what?) than physical fanservice, so seeing Kyou get pretty hot and bothered in that gym outfit really caught a lot of people off guard. It's a good example of fanservice, in a sense, something used sparingly that doesn't hog the attention of the show...well...of the show, not the viewer. XD

While thigh-highs and burumas make for an inventive and rarely-seen zettai ryouikai which is - let's be honest - hawt, I wouldn't say it's quite the justification for the bloggasm (you know which kind) it has provoked. Still, if it isn't broken, I suppose Key shouldn't feel that they have to fix it - as you're saying, it's refined.

i see what you're saying, but even as a girl, i like kyou--i don't usually like tsunderes, but there's just something really mesmerizing about her ability to take everything in stride and...i don't know, a certain aura about her. her look, voice, and expressions really work for her, which i think is independent of her being a tsundere or not. (for instance, playing the game i wasn't a huge kyou fan, but i love her in the anime.) it's just how everything came together in the final product...anyway, just my 10 c. :)

also, ever since "tsundere became the new moe," people have been trying to distance themselves from characters that they might consider too "token tsundere"--but why?? i guess they don't want to feel like they're being manipulated by "the system"...but hey, it's only pandering to the masses. if you like something, you like something--embrace it!
Ryou is pretty messed up inside. You'd have to play through the game to actually see how messed up she really is.

In Kappei's route, which you'll never see in the show, she threatens to rape the bugger if he does not snap out of it. Yep, women threatening to rape men. What is this world coming to.

I dunno about you, but Tomoyo is pretty tragic. Again you'll never see this in the show. Taken from 4chan:

In the "good" end, Tomoya had his brain badly damaged from falling. He was fine for a while but he became somewhat amnesiac afterwards (his memory starts from grade 9 in secondary school), and he was only able to store new memory for exactly one week (after a week his memory would reset to grade 9 again). Tomoyo has been taking care of Tomoya in such state for 3 years. So in order to remember his love to Tomoyo, Tomoya proposed to her and they got married. The damage, however, could be operated on and be repaired (VERY slim chance of success). Now in order to be able to make new memories, Tomoya decided to take the operation.

The operation failed, and Tomoya got paralyzed. Good news was that Tomoya got his memory back. After a few years though, Tomoya died with a smile. The last scene they saw together was a beautiful sunset, and this supposedly made Tomoyo realize that every happiness and sadness they experienced together up to this point was to experience this beautiful moment. Because of all the agony she experienced in the past, she could now see the life as a wonderful thing (supposedly by comparing it to the agony she experienced when Tomoya died).

In the bad ending, Tomoyo becomes sex crazed (she was somewhat mentally delusional from the event of the first half of the game) and lives a pointless and delusional life along with depressed Tomoya and their adopted daughter (she was the key main heroine in the first half).
Man I'm so completely messed up inside.

(COMMUNIST POST EDITING: In soviet blog, spoilers are paranoid of you. I have no idea if it's spoilers or 4chan being 4chan, or if you meant to tag it, but I've spoiler-tagged it as a precaution.)
