An important page like the about page feels like it should have something grand as an opener; a simple “Hi! I’m CCY” seems too casual, but pulling something fancy on the reader seems too pretentious. In the end, I guess I settled for a simple fourth wall opening.

I think the best way to put it is that I’d rather have my posts speak for themselves, since I’m not good at describing myself. But since I suppose you asked for it, since you’re here and all:

I’m CCY, anime junkie, computer nerd and geek in general. It originally meant “Cardcaptor Yoshi”, a simple mix of my favorite anime and my favorite Nintendo character back in 2000, but was shortened out of simplicity and of sanity (with one friend commenting “I read that and I picture a green dinosaur in a short miniskirt”). I also go by Canon (with some letters attached to the end) on occasion.

I’m a class of 2012 college student from (and in) California, with interests to go into computer science, with possible minors in creative writing, Japanese, weeabooism, you name it. Unsurprisingly, these stem pretty much directly from my two major passions, video games and anime.

I like video games a lot, growing up with the Nintendo generation – although I enjoy other companies as well, especially for their racing games (there’s the third passion). I don’t have as much time for actual game-playing anymore, but amusingly enough this is because I have a lot of fun creating them as well. And by “having fun”, I mean “it feels like a better use of my time.”

Well, that, and anime is taking an increasing amount of my time. I suppose since this is an anime blog I should talk about that more. Brief history: in the begininng there was Cardcaptor Sakura, and then Cardcaptor Sakura, and then Cardcaptor Sakura for about three more years. Somehow I managed to claim I was an anime fan based solely on the love of one-and-a-half shows, the second being DNAngel. I suppose everyone’s been through that phase before, and now I can be proud of moving on to what could only be called a true obsession.

It started with Tokimeki Memorial late in 2006, when I was craving the import video games of it, but had to settle for an anime I didn’t know existed. This led into AIR, out of a curiosity to figure out what “Gao”, Misuzu’s catchphrase, meant. What I got, though, was a much more touching story than that, which snowballed into an interest in Kanon. Kanon led to Shuffle, another visual novel adaptation, and to Haruhi, another KyoAni work, and from there, the rest is kind of history, with dozens of series under my belt and many more being watched as of present.

My viewing tastes are mostly of the romantic type – action has never really struck me as much, as I’m much more of an emotional sap than a testosterone-driven guy. Visual novel type shows (one might call them ‘harem’ shows, although that’s a bit of a lie) are my absolute favorite – Kanon, Shuffle, Da Capo, and the like – as they offer the whole package: adorable characters, tear-jerking plots, and intense drama and conflict. I suppose I’m kind of a moe fanatic, as I really do have a soft spot for a lot of character archetypes – but moreso for those who twist the mold – and hey, the blog is called “Mega Megane Moe” after all.

In case you didn’t know, that essentially translates to “Mega Glasses Adoration” – I say adoration because fetish is too strong a word. Being a guy who wears glasses myself, I’ve always had a sort of irrational leaning towards girls with glasses. It’s probably the intellectual aura they give off.

I appear to have garnered a reputation as “that guy who can take apart harem series” and it’s true – I like analyzing simple shows in a deep way, since I don’t watch a lot of ‘truly’ deep shows. Calling them harem series, though, is kind of demeaning – frequently they’re much more than ‘girls throwing themselves at a guy’, or at least, the ones I watch aren’t. Straight-up fanservice, I can’t take, so I usually slant towards the more visual-novel-style harem shows, with hidden storylines and occasionally quite some meaning to it.

My posting style is generally serious, as I like to ramble on and on and make long posts out of these analyses. I like humor a lot, and if you ever talk to me you’ll find that I laugh and try to make funny a lot, but it doesn’t come as naturally in essay form, which is why I might appear a little more academic in this blog. I enjoy writing about anime nevertheless, and I hope you enjoy reading Mega Megane Moe as well!
