I suspect that, as you say, it doesn't quite stand up to close scrutiny, but it was such a thrill ride that I'm prepared to put that aside. At least we're seeing commendable variation, from the browbeaten-but-analytical Kaiji of the Espoir, through the physically and morally courageous Kaiji on the Brave Men Road to the slightly insane, nothing-to-lose, Slave vs. Emperor Kaiji of E-Card. My bet's on Kaiji losing his ear permanently, though. Also, I love the rollover titles on the images in this entry.
